So I have a little confession to make...
I'm a little crunchy.
I know that sounds unlikely coming from someone who has lived in New York for as long as I have and rises and falls everyday according to what's happening in the fashion trades...but it's true: I'm a little hippie underneath it all. (In designer undies, of course...no hemp panties over here!) I hate chemicals...I mean, I really hate chemicals. And they don't like me either. The mere glancing at the majority of skin products on a store shelf breaks me out in a variety of rashes and hives (lovingly named "Pox" by my adoring husband, who is convinced that he can catch my allergic reactions like the flu. As in "Get your Pox away from me...I don't want to catch it!" Don't even get me started). After years of trying every product one could imagine, I finally found the remedy to my epidermal dilemma: make it myself!
{Welcome to Crunchy-Town!}
As soon as the first signs of winter weather fall upon this big city, my skin becomes dry and itchy. This easy to make body scrub is the only thing that keeps me soft, smooth and Pox free. It's a good thing because Pox are apparently contagious...
Make a little at a time or make big batches to share with friends. It can last up to a month at room temperature or a little longer in the fridge.
Coconut Honey Body Scrub
1 Part Granulated Sugar
1 Part Coconut Oil
1/2 Part (give or take) Honey
A few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)
Mix all ingredients in a jar and enjoy!
When the weather gets really rough in New York, I add a few more ingredients to my basic scrub to really ramp up the moisture. This heavy duty recipe has been dubbed the "January Scrub" in my household as it was the only thing that kept our skin from falling off entirely last January...
January Scrub
1 part Sugar
1/2 part coconut oil
1/2 part olive oil
1/2 part honey
A dash of a super luxurious oil like almond, avocado, jojoba or argan. (At the height of last winter, I put all of them in one batch...take that Polar Vortex!)
A few drops of your favorite essential oil
Mix together in a jar and enjoy!
{Adjust the sugar to oil ratio to get the right amount of scrub for your personal preference. And Coarse salt is a great add-in for scaly knees and feet!}
Helping fight the Pox epidemic one body at a time :)
Enjoy!
